Type Locality and Naming
Palk Strait (between Sri Lanka and India); composite of Wells Delft, PalkBay and Pesalai.

Lithology and Thickness
Pelagic marl. Delft well has ca. 350 m of calcareous claystones, silty and sandy. PalkBay well has ca. 300 m of limestone and calcareous claystone.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Conformable with PalkStrait Eocene Fm limestone in PalkBay well; but unconformable (major hiatus) on PalkStrait Aptian Fm sandstone in Delft well.
Upper contact
Conformable with PalkStrait EarlyMiocene Fm shallow-marine marl
Regional extent
Found in Delft, PalkBay and Pesalai wells of Palk Strait (between Sri Lanka and southern tip of India)

Planktonic foraminfer of Globigerina, Ciperoensis, Globoratulia. Benthic foraminifers of Nummulites, Num. fichtali, Sphaeroidina bullords and reworked Pellatispira. Calcareous nannofossils.
